'Adonis Blue' is part of the celebrated English Butterfly Series, specifically bred for a more manageable, compact habit while maintaining the flower power of larger varieties. The blooms are a magnificent deep ink-blue, accented with a tiny orange eye, and emit a heavy, sweet fragrance that is irresistible to butterflies and bees. Its foliage is a deep grey-green, providing a velvety texture that perfectly complements the dark, moody tones of the flower spikes.
Because of its smaller stature, 'Adonis Blue' is an ideal choice for the middle of a border or even a large patio container. It flowers profusely from mid-summer through to the first frosts of autumn. Like all davidii types, it is exceptionally hardy and drought-tolerant once established. To maintain its neat shape and encourage the largest possible flower spikes, prune the plant hard in early spring. To ensure the best start and a resilient root system, we recommend using Rootgrow when planting. To support its heavy flowering throughout the season, apply Vitax Q4 All Purpose Fertiliser in the spring.
