Short description

Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’, also known as Japanese Blood Grass, is a striking deciduous ornamental grass with upright green blades tipped in deep red. As the season progresses, the red intensifies and spreads further down the leaf, creating a fiery display in late summer and autumn. It adds bold colour and texture to borders, gravel gardens, or containers.

This grass typically reaches around 40–50cm in height and spreads to about 30–40cm, forming tidy clumps over time without becoming invasive. Thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist but well-drained soil. Will tolerate most soil types, including clay, provided it's not waterlogged. Cut back old foliage in early spring before new growth emerges. Divide clumps every few years to maintain vigour. Mulch in spring and water during prolonged dry periods to keep the plant looking its best.

Placing an Online Order with Goldcliff Garden Centre

Once you have added your items to the basket, you can continue to secure checkout and make payments via credit or debit card. All payments are processed via Apple Pay, Google Pay, Credit Card, Debit Card and PayPal.

Click and Collect

We offer a click-and-collect service for those who would like to collect from us directly. Collection times are between 8:30 am and 6 pm - 7 days a week.

We ask you to have a copy of your order confirmation to hand, either printed or on a mobile device.

Please do not come to collect your order unless you have received a ‘ready to be collected’ email, as it may not be ready immediately. We strive to get all click and collect orders together within 2 hours, but sometimes this is not possible.

Local Deliveries

Local Deliveries are sent out on a first-come-first-served basis. There is no minimum order, but there is a fee for all orders that start at £10 and increase as you get further away from our centre. 

We offer curbside/driveway drop-off only. 

Additional charges may apply for large or heavy items.
