Pepper Chilli Habanero Orange RHS AGM

Short description

Our hottest chilly available, habanero is fiery hot and very pungent and used a lot in West Indian sauces. It has small tapering fruits of 5cm in length which range from dark green to pale orange when ripe. Use sparingly if you aren't too keen on hot food but if you are a heat lover it has a Scoville Heat Unit rating of a whopping 100,000 to 350,000 depending on maturity. As easy to grow as tomatoes and requires much of the same treatment. Peppers can be grown outside, so long as they are in a sheltered sunny area, but best results are usually obtained when they are grown in a polytunnel or a glasshouse. Peppers are delicious when used raw in salads but are also very tasty when cooked. They can be stuffed, roasted or added to sauces.

WHEN TO SOW
February to April

Where to Sow
Sow seed on the surface of a free-draining compost in pots or trays and cover with a fine sprinkling of compost or vermiculite and place at a temperature 18-21°C until seeds germinate.

What to do next
Prick out seedlings when large enough to handle into 7cm (3in) pots and grow on under glass. Once plants reach 10cm (4in) high transplant into grow bags or 25cm (10in) pots and grow on under glass. Feed once a week with tomato fertiliser once the first fruits have set.

Harvest
Late July to October.

Handy tip
Remove the seeds from the fruits before cooking, as this will reduce the heat. Alternatively, cook whole in dishes and remove the fruit partway through.

Click and Collect

We offer a click and collect service for those who would like to collect from us directly. Collection times are between 8:30 am and 6:00 pm 7 days a week.

We ask you to have a copy of your order confirmation to hand, either printed or on a mobile device

Please do not come to collect your order unless you have received a ‘ready to be collected’ email as it may not be ready immediately. We strive to get all click and collect orders together within an hour but sometimes this is not possible.

Local Deliveries

Local Deliveries are sent out on a first-come-first-served basis. There is no minimum order, but there is a fee for all orders that start at £10 and increase as you get further away from our centre. All deliveries are from Monday to Friday 9-4. 

We offer curbside/driveway drop off only. 

Additional charges may apply for large or heavy items.

E-Gift Card Delivery

  • Delivery for our E-Gift Cards is FREE as it is sent to an email address of your choice.

  • Please note that your E-Gift Card will automatically be sent to the email address provided upon completion of payment.

  • If you would like it to be sent directly to your recipient at the time of purchase, please enter their email address in the 'Delivery Address' section at checkout. 

  • Alternatively, you can forward the email to them at a preferred date.
