Quince Vranja

Price £ 39.99

Short description

Quince ‘Vranja’ is a self-fertile, hardy deciduous tree that produces large, pale green-yellow, pear-shaped fruit with a strong fragrance and excellent flavour, ideal for cooking. The fruit ripens in October and is best picked when golden and aromatic. In spring, it bears soft pink-tinged white blossoms, adding ornamental value to kitchen gardens and borders.

Grows to 3–4m tall and wide. Plant in full sun in a sheltered spot, avoiding frost pockets and exposed windy areas. Prefers moisture-retentive, fertile, well-drained soil. Avoid waterlogged conditions. Prune in late autumn or winter to maintain shape and remove dead or crossing branches. Feed with sulphate of potash in late winter to support fruiting, and apply a high nitrogen feed in early spring to encourage healthy growth.
