'Izumi-no-mai' is a truly distinctive cultivar, standing apart from traditional azaleas with its unusual flower form. In late spring, it is covered in a profusion of pale to mid-pink blooms. Unlike the standard funnel-shaped azalea flowers, these have deeply divided, narrow petals that give the shrub a light, airy, and "star-burst" appearance. The name roughly translates to "Dance of the Fountain," perfectly capturing the elegant, spraying effect of its blossoms.

This compact evergreen has a slow-growing, mounded habit and small, dark green leaves that provide a solid structural presence year-round. It is an ideal specimen for a Japanese-themed garden, a woodland border, or a decorative container. Like all azaleas, it is an ericaceous plant and must be grown in acidic soil or ericaceous compost. To preserve the delicate flowers and prevent foliage scorch, it should be planted in a sheltered spot with dappled or partial shade. To help it establish its shallow root system, we recommend using Rootgrow (Ericaceous) during planting.
