The classic Bay Tree is a staple in both the kitchen garden and the formal landscape. It features oval, leathery, dark green leaves that release a rich, aromatic fragrance when bruised or dried, essential for seasoning stews, soups, and sauces. Small, inconspicuous creamy-yellow flowers appear in spring, followed by small black berries on female plants. Bay trees are slow-growing and naturally dense, responding exceptionally well to clipping, which is why they are often trained into standard "lollipops" or pyramids for formal displays.

While they can be grown in the ground in milder areas, they are best suited to containers in the UK, allowing them to be easily moved to a sheltered spot or frost-free greenhouse during severe winter weather. To ensure the plant establishes a strong and resilient root system, we recommend using Rootgrow when planting. To maintain the health and glossy finish of the leaves and ensure the soil remains biologically active, apply Empathy After Plant Evergreen regularly during the growing season.
