Malus floribunda, commonly known as the Japanese Crab Apple, has been a garden favourite since the 1860s. It is most famous for its stunning "two-tone" flowering effect in mid-spring. The tree produces an abundance of deep crimson-red buds which open to reveal delicate, pale pink flowers that gradually fade to pure white. This creates a multi-coloured canopy that is truly spectacular.

The tree has a graceful, spreading, and slightly weeping habit, making it an elite specimen tree for any size garden. Its small, dark green leaves are remarkably resistant to scab and mildew, ensuring the tree looks healthy throughout the summer. In autumn, it produces small, pea-sized yellow and red fruits that are highly attractive to birds. Because of its massive flower production, it is also a fantastic pollinator for culinary apple trees. To help it establish a strong, deep root system, we recommend using Rootgrow when planting.
