'Mount Aso' is a true showstopper and a must-have for winter and early spring interest. Discovered on the slopes of Mount Aso in Japan, this willow produces catkins that are an incredible, vivid pink—a color rarely seen in the early garden landscape. These silky, "pussy willow" buds emerge as early as February, gradually maturing to a silvery-grey with yellow pollen, providing a vital early nectar source for bees.

Beyond its stunning spring display, the shrub features attractive, lance-shaped blue-green leaves with a silvery underside that shimmer in the summer breeze. It has a multi-stemmed, bushy habit and is exceptionally easy to grow. Like most willows, it is moisture-loving and thrives in damp spots where other plants might struggle. To ensure a heavy crop of the most vibrant pink catkins for the following year, the plant should be pruned hard back (coppiced) in early spring, immediately after the catkins have finished. To give it the best possible start, we recommend using Rootgrow when planting.
