Often called the 'Japanese Rose' or 'Beach Rose', this is one of the most robust and disease-resistant roses available. It forms a dense, impenetrable thicket of extremely prickly stems covered in crinkled (rugose), glossy green leaves. From late spring to late summer, it bears a succession of large, open, sweetly scented flowers in shades of deep pink to magenta. These are followed in autumn by huge, tomato-red rose hips which are highly ornamental and a great food source for birds.

It is the perfect choice for an informal flowering hedge, particularly in exposed coastal gardens or areas with sandy soil where other plants struggle. It is virtually maintenance-free and requires no delicate pruning. To ensure the plant establishes a strong root system (essential for roses), we recommend using Rootgrow when planting. To support prolific flowering and the production of those spectacular hips, apply Toprose Rose Food in early spring and again in mid-summer.
